The NCDOT Traffic Safety Unit has committed $100,000 in Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds to finance development of the BGMPO Highway Safety Plan (HSP). The HSP falls under the umbrella of the BGMPO Highway Safety Program—approved in October 2020 with the objective of raising awareness about traffic safety and changing public attitudes and behaviors. The HSP will examine current crash trends and safety conditions, obtain public input, and recommend a set of policies, programs and projects that can improve traffic safety throughout the region. Development of the HSP is expected to begin early Fall 2021.
