The State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) is a state and federally mandated plan that identifies the funding schedule for transportation projects in North Carolina across a 10-year period. Most transportation projects in North Carolina are funded through the STIP. The STIP is updated every two years to reflect project completions and revisions, changes in revenue streams, and adjusted prioritization.
Projects scheduled within the first five years of the STIP are referred to as committed projects because there is increased certainty of implementation. Projects scheduled in the last five years are considered developmental because their implementation is less assured. Projects are organized by the 14 transportation divisions and further divided by project type and impact (Statewide Mobility, Regional Impact or Division Needs).
