PART is responsible for developing and maintaining the Piedmont Triad Regional Model, a program that forecasts future demand on existing and planning transportation facilities. Burlington-Graham MPO relies on this model to identify requisite transportation investments that can meet this future demand.
Socio-economic data—land use, demographic information, population—are important inputs to the model. The current process for developing the socio-economic data has limited utility because of its time-intensive and top-down approach. A couple years ago, PART decided to build a Piedmont Triad CommunityViz Model using CommunityViz software, which will replace prior socio-economic data processes for the region. This new model will employ a bottom-up approach that will allow for more detailed analysis and greater operational flexibility.
